The Flying Piggy: Piggy part

Description

This is the rigged piggy part of the automata. The wings have their wire attached and the legs are rigged to kick out. The rest of the automata is still under contruction but will be completed shortly.

Now for all the technical info and stuffs:

The pig is entirely needle felted wool. It's hollow and there is a slot in its back between the wings. The legs are solid needle felted wool. No filler, foam, or material that has been needle felted over. There is a copper wire that runs into the legs with a tab so they can be manipulated as the automata is operated. The wires that control the front and back legs are run through the body and fed down through the wooden disks that act as the support. Then it follows the rod into the box that hold all the cams and pulleys.

Suffice it to say, it was fun and something of a challenge to work out how I was going to rig it.

This is going to be part of the Charity auction for Alzheimer research being held at Dragon*Con. If you happen to be attending, stop by the charity auction table and take a look at it.
